Port St. Lucie man’s carpet caper fails as deputies catch peek-a-boo motorcycle

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Port St. Lucie man’s reckless motorcycle ride ended in an unusual attempt to hide from law enforcement, but his plan quickly fell apart.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) announced on Tuesday that 30-year-old Gregory Landry was reported to be driving dangerously, weaving through traffic with a female passenger in the back.
According to MCSO, when a Traffic Sergeant attempted to pull him over, Landry decided to flee, putting both himself and his passenger at risk of injury.
MCSO said that the chase escalated as Landry drove over sidewalks and eventually abandoned the motorcycle at a home on NW 13th Terrace.
In a bizarre attempt to conceal the motorcycle, deputies said he grabbed a household carpet and tried to cover it up.

However, the MCSO Aviation Unit, which was monitoring the situation from the air, spotted the motorcycle peeking out from under the carpet.
When deputies arrived at the home, Landry came out of the house and was taken into custody.
MCSO said they uncovered that Landry was riding with a revoked driver’s license from a prior fleeing and eluding arrest and was also a known member of the Pagans motorcycle club.
Landry now faces charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
