Smith County jury finds Kemp man guilty of leading gang that murdered biker

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – A Smith County jury has found a Kemp man guilty of directing a biker club in a way that resulted in murder.
Kevin Dale Higgins, 58, has been convicted for his role as the national president of a gang, which links him to a string of criminal activities including aggravated assault and murder.
Higgins’ original trial ended in December with a hung jury, and his retrial began Tuesday. Deliberations began on Friday.
The jury will begin hearing sentencing testimony for Higgins on Tuesday.
Higgins maintained his innocence throughout the second trial and entered a plea of not guilty.
Very similarly to December’s trial, witnesses include the former members of the Ugly Man Cossacks motorcycle club who were convicted of murdering rival club “1%er Cossacks” member Brandon Edwards, of Ben Wheeler, in May of 2020.
