No indication of threat to public safety, according to police

The Hells Angels are planning to hold a memorial motorcycle ride in Sudbury on Saturday, according to the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), adding that it is preparing a coordinated response with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Police advised the public about the event on Wednesday, noting that there may be traffic disruptions between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday along the Kingsway and the MR80, as well as in the downtown core.
GSPS staff sergeant Darin Heffern said there is no indication of a threat to public safety. But he said the public can expect increased police presence in those areas on Saturday, which police believe are on the Hells Angels’ planned route.
“We expect members from many [Hells Angels] chapters, both provincially and nationally, to be attending this event,” Heffern said, adding that police expect many members to arrive on Friday.
The GSPS is partnering with the OPP’s biker enforcement unit, as well as local detachments, to respond on Saturday.
“Police in Ontario don’t prevent the lawful gathering of groups under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” Heffern said. “Our goal is to ensure public safety, preserve the peace and enforce laws where necessary.”
He added that the Hells Angels have been identified as “outlaw motorcycle gangs
” and police are advising the public not to engage with or confront any of its members.
