Hells Angels rally to support member injured in London motorcycle crash
The Hells Angels and their supporters are rallying around a member of the outlaw motorcycle gang’s London chapter after he was injured in a crash.
Emergency crews responded around 1 p.m. on Aug. 31 to a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle near Wonderland Road and Springbank Drive, where the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening and a passenger wasn’t injured, police said.
Sources identified the injured motorcyclist as Shawn “Stacks” Stacpoole, a longtime member of the London Hells Angels chapter.
Stacpoole suffered several broken bones including in his neck, his tailbone and his pelvis, according to a social media post.
In the days following the crash, members of the Hells Angels and the Gatekeepers, one of their support clubs, gathered at the intensive-care unit at Victoria Hospital, where a row of motorcycles was parked outside.
Other men and women wearing Hells Angels support gear – only members of the motorcycle gang can wear attire with the Hells Angels name or “death head” logo – also kept vigil in the hospital waiting room and outside throughout the day and night.
Some of the bikers revved their engines in unison, creating a load roar that could be heard inside the hospital, in a sign of support for Stacpoole, who was listed in fair condition Monday, a London Health Sciences Centre spokesperson said.
With 475 chapters in 65 countries, the Hells Angels are the largest motorcycle club in the world – the Bandidos are the second biggest – and have more than two dozen support clubs in Canada, including the Gatekeepers, Red Devils and One Order in Southwestern Ontario.
The club’s London chapter was founded in 2003 by Robert Barletta, 54, who is now a member of the Montreal chapter.
