BRASS KNUCKLES SEIZED: On Nov. 22, Cpl. Lex Ogan was monitoring traffic on U.S. Highway 78 when he ran the tag on a Nissan Altima and discovered the owner had his license suspended due to failing to pay child support. The 56-year-old Monroe man explained that he and his wife were headed to Sam’s Club to get items for a get-together with friends. The deputy smelled marijuana in the car, which prompted a search. A pistol was found in the wife’s purse and a .380-caliber pistol was found in a jacket with the Steel Horseman Support Club logo. Also in the jacket were brass knuckles, pepper spray and three bags of marijuana. The man, who was a convicted felon, claimed the gun belonged to his wife. However, she told another deputy she was unaware of the gun in her husband’s jacket. The man said he was a lifelong member of the Steel Horseman motorcycle group, which has a clubhouse in Winder. The deputy conducted a criminal history and found an extensive record for the man including arson, drug distribution, fraud, shoplifting, numerous probation violations and felony escape, the latter occurring in Florida. He was taken to jail.
