Connecticut motorcycle club member accused of throwing explosives at former member’s home

ANDOVER — A Torrington man and “fully patched” member of a motorcycle club associated with the Hells Angels was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly tossed two explosive devices at the home of a former member last spring, according to court documents.
The clubhouse of the Red Devils Motorcycle Club was the subject of a search warrant execution on Aug. 6, the same day state police arrested Anthony Fox, 50, on charges of third-degree arson and second-degree breach of peace.
Fox was released on $350,000. No pleas have been entered on the two charges, according to court records.
It’s unknown if there were additional arrests tied to the motorcycle club on Moody Road. Police shut down most of the road on Aug. 6, the day the search warrant was executed on the Moody Road clubhouse.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and our commitment to guarding investigative integrity, no additional information can be released at this time,” state police said on that day about the investigation.
The investigation was handled by the state police Bureau of Special Investigations to a detective assigned full time to an FBI Violence Crime Task Force in New Haven, according to the warrant.
Police have remained tight-lipped about Fox’s arrest and are not releasing his criminal information summary or even a mugshot, which are required under state law. They forwarded any requests to the state police legal unit, citing an ongoing investigation.
In their investigation, state police linked Fox to the two explosive devices by cellphone records and surveillance video, according to the warrant.
Fox is allegedly connected to an April 15 explosion outside an Andover home on Route 6 and a second attack weeks on May 9 involving a Molotov cocktail-style device. There were no injuries in either explosion but the second attack damaged a vehicle, according to the warrant.
Police later learned the apparent target was a former member of the Red Devils Motorcycle Club, which investigators said is closely associated with the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club in Connecticut.
A description of the fleeing car’s long rectangular brake lights matched a vehicle later seen arriving at the Red Devils clubhouse in Enfield approximately 45 minutes after the second explosive went off, roughly the amount of time it would take to drive there from Andover, police said.
FBI analysis of cellphone records placed a phone associated with Fox near the Andover crime scene during the May 9 incident and later at the Enfield clubhouse. Cellphone records also placed Fox’s phone near the Andover home on April 15, according to the warrant.
The clubhouse in question sat at the center of a 2021 homicide investigation into the death of Jason Comes of Wilbraham, Mass., who was killed after he crossed paths with two alleged members of the motorcycle gang. Comes was taken to the the Moody Road motorcycle clubhouse and “they beat him senseless” and later bound his ankles and wrists and later fatally shot him, according to warrants and court testimony.
Timothy Lange, 36, was sentenced to 44 years in prison after being found guilty of murder and a second suspect, Zachary Apt, 35, of Southington, was arrested earlier this year on murder charges.
In warrants for the Comes murder, the clubhouse was associated with the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. It’s unclear if there is an association with the Outlaws and the Red Devils.
