Killer sentenced to at least 70 years for fatal shooting outside motorcycle club

A Pontiac man with a lengthy criminal history will live the rest of his life in prison based on his sentencing Wednesday of at least 70 years incarceration for a fatal shooting and related crimes outside a motorcycle club last year.

At a hearing in Oakland County Circuit Court, Judge Mary Ellen Brennan sentenced Malcolm Robert Boykin, 56, to 60-90 years behind bars for the second-degree murder of Charlie Isaac Odneal II, who died March 6, 2024 in an area hospital the day after he was gunned down outside the Night Riders Motorcycle Club in Pontiac. Boykin and Odneal were reportedly acquaintances.

The judge also handed Boykin concurrent sentences of 30-80 years for assault with intent to murder and 6-30 years for firearms-related crimes, as well as a 10-year consecutive sentence for other firearms-related crimes.

Boykin was convicted of all the charges at the conclusion of a jury trial on April 1.

Besides his most recent convictions, Boykin’s criminal history includes drug possession, car theft, weapons-related crimes and armed robbery. He was discharged from his most recent stay in prison in November 2022 — about 16 months before he killed Odneal.

As stated in his obituary, Odneal was known to many as “Isaac,” and was employed as a production worker with Bridgewater Interiors. He was the father of five.

In 2019, another homicide happened at the Night Riders Motorcycle Club when Mecca Ramsey was shot to death inside the club’s bathroom; a second man was also shot and survived. Gregory Kincade was convicted of second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and several weapons-related crimes.

He, too, had a criminal history prior to the shooting and spent nearly two decades in prison before the 2019 shootings. Kincade, 48, is serving a 45 to 80-year sentence at the Muskegon Correctional Facility.

New York State Police Press Release

What started as a routine patrol quickly turned into a bold roadside arrest. On May 10th,2025 New York State Police Troopers encountered an armed and visibly affiliated member of an outlaw motorcycle gang. This occurred on the Southern State Parkway at approximately 2:10 a.m. when Troopers observed a disabled motorcycle on the westbound shoulder near Exit 18. Stopping to check on the welfare of the operator later identified as Aaron B. Morgan, age 45 of Queens only to discover much more than a mechanical issue.

Morgan, standing next to the motorcycle, was wearing a leather vest displaying Twister MC patches, a known outlaw motorcycle gang, along with a “1%” patch, and nunchucks attached to the outside of the leather vest. As they were conducting their interview, Morgan produced a set of metal knuckles from his vest pocket.

Recognizing the potential danger Troopers acted swiftly and placed Morgan under arrest. He attempted to resist, but thanks to the Troopers’ training, composure, and professionalism he was taken into custody without injury to Troopers or the suspect.

A small baggie containing an unidentified white powdery substance was also located on Morgan’s person. Upon conducting an inventory of the motorcycle, which Morgan said lost power, Troopers discovered a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun with 15 rounds inside. Morgan was transported to the New York State Police East Meadow Barracks, where he was processed and charges are pending.

Morgan was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (C Felony), three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (D Felony), one count of Resisting Arrest( A Misdemeanor), and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (A Misdemeanor). Morgan was arraigned at Nassau County Courts May 10th.

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/hells-angels-residence-shot-up-near-quebec-city/

A residence in Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, in the Jacques-Cartier MRC near Quebec City, was shot at twice this week.
The suspects again shot at the home on Friday evening, at around 8:30 p.m., prompting a major police deployment.

“Police officers from the Jacques-Cartier MRC were called to reports of gunshots heard in the Sommet Road area of Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury. Once on the scene, they found that shots had hit a residence in

the area. Fortunately, no one was injured,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau in an interview.
The residence is located in a densely wooded residential area where neighbours are a safe distance away.

The house in question may belong to Mathieu Pelletier, an alleged member in good standing of the Hells Angels, according to the daily Le Soleil, which said it had checked the municipal land register.

Police refused to confirm this information immediately, since the person targeted is a victim and the police never publicly identify victims in their investigations.

However, Bilodeau acknowledged that this is not the first time that the area has been targeted.

“This is the second time. There was a similar incident on Thursday night,” she admitted. “The Major Crimes Division is conducting the two investigations in order to shed light on these two events.”

  • Canadian Hells Angel Charged With Uttering Threats In Surrey

The charge was sworn against him on April 18 and he was arrested a day later while driving a Ford Focus in Cloverdale

Surrey Hells Angel Jaswinder Basi has been charged with uttering threats, though police are not commenting on the circumstances that led to his recent arrest.

Basi, 40, was a member of the Haney chapter of the B.C. Hells Angel, though last year he moved to Ontario to join the Nomads chapter there. He splits his time between the two provinces, according to sources

The B.C. court online database shows that Basi is accused of making threats to cause death or bodily harm on March 25 in Surrey
The charge was sworn against him on April 18 and he was arrested a day later while driving a Ford Focus in Cloverdale. He was ordered released on bail on April 19 with a followup court appearance scheduled for May 14.

Surrey Police Service spokesman Ian MacDonald said he couldn’t comment on the Basi charge and arrest because “this is part of an ongoing investigation.”

Basi owns at least two Lower Mainland businesses.

Some of his former Haney chapter-mates have also faced recent run-ins with the law.

Last year, Courtenay Lafreniere was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of property obtained by crime. The charge stemmed from an eight-month-long investigation by the anti-gang Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.

The probe into a group believed to be involved in a large-scale, interprovincial drug-trafficking operation began in 2020

During a July 2021 search, CFSEU officers found $65,570 in Lafreniere’s Maple Ridge home, according to a civil forfeiture lawsuit filed in 2022. Some of it was bundled with elastic bands. There was also benzocaine, cocaine and 2.4 kilograms of cannabis.

All but $5,000 of the cash was forfeited to the B.C. government in December, court records indicate.

Another longtime Haney Hells Angel, Vincenzo Sansalone, was sentenced in December 2023 to four years in jail for trafficking in a controlled substance. The charge stemmed from a joint Canada-U. S. transnational organized crime investigation conducted by the RCMP’s B.C. federal serious and organized crime unit and U.S. authorities.

And Haney member Damion Ryan is awaiting trial in custody in Manitoba, where police allege he had a role in a major interprovincial drug trafficking operation. His trial is scheduled for September 2025.

Ryan was also charged in the U.S. last year with being part of an unsuccessful murder-for-hire plot targeting two Iranian dissidents living there.

The U.S. indictment says Ryan was working for Iranian drug lord Naji Zindashti — on orders from the Iranian government — and alleges he was recorded on an encrypted device agreeing to put together a team to do the hit for $350,000 US, plus $20,000 in expenses.

Other B.C. Hells Angels have also been charged or convicted in recent years, including B.C. Nomad Francisco Batista Pires, 62, charged in March with one count of keeping an illegal gaming house.

The B.C. bikers are still being impacted by the forfeiture of Hells Angels clubhouses in Nanaimo, Kelowna and east Vancouver to the provincial government in 2023 after a long-running lawsuit.

Since then, the former east Vancouver clubhouse on East Georgia has been listed and sold and both the Nanaimo and Kelowna clubhouses have been demolished.

A devoted husband and father who tragically died as he rode his motorbike home from work was laid to rest as hundreds of mourners and fellow bikers came together to celebrate the remarkle life he lived.

Dad-of-two Chris Brown, 37, suffered critical injuries when his Harley Davidson motorbike was caught in a horror collision in Wallsend on April 7 . Chris died in hospital three days later, leaving behind his devastated wife Stacey and his two daughters Harlo-Rose, 12, and Haylan, 7. Today as family and friends came together at South Shields Crematorium to say their final goodbyes, more than a thousand motorbikes created a powerful and emotional procession, accompanying Chris on his final journey. A proud member of The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, Chris was honoured by riders who travelled from across the country – and even further afield – to pay tribute to one of their own.

“This is what we do,” one biker who had travelled from Northampton to pay his respects said, while others had come from Wales and Northern Ireland to as far as Amsterdam, Switzerland, Belgium, Madrid and the Canary Islands. It was a fitting tribute to a man who was described in the service as someone whose smile “lit up the room”, and who had a generous nature that “knew no bounds”.

As Chris’ coffin was carried into the crematorium, with ‘Hells Angels’ emblazoned on its side, the brikers chanted “Affa!” – the Hells Angels slogan meaning Angels Forever, Forever Angels – with crowds bursting into applause. It was said of Chris during the emotional service: “He did more in 37 years than others have done in three lifetimes.”

The beloved dad, who was a supervisor at Smulders in Wallsend, was described as having: “Lived life at full throttle – a life not measured in years, but measured in miles. He wasn’t just a biker, he was a legend in motion. A soul that was built for the road. His love of motorbikes wasn’t just a passion; it was his way of life.”

The celebrant added: “Chris would always say, when his time was up, he wanted to go on his bike. Despite this, he still had everything to live for.”
The Hells Angels wore sashes on their signature leather vests bearing Chris’ nickname Browny. The large turnout at his funeral meant traffic was halted through the Tyne Tunnel to allow the long procession to pass through. “He was full of integrity, courage, and he really embraced the true brotherhood of what we’ve got in this club,” one of his fellow bikers from the Northumberland charter of Hells Angels said in a moving speech. “His class, and his style, his finesse, it was there in bucketfuls.”

The story of Chris’ life told during the ceremony drew both laughter and tears from mourners. Even as a child he “had no fear”, with his passion for bikes starting at the tender age of seven – but his wife and his girls were what his “world revolved around” and where he found his “greatest joy”, the celebrant said.

Chris’ wife Stacey previously said of her husband: “Nobody had a bad word to say about Chris. He was such a kind person, he would do anything for anyone. And he was such a family man too, especially to me and our children. Anybody who met him, this is why it has properly shook the town, because anybody who met him loved him. He was a proper, genuine, nice person.”

Stacey has decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday, June 21, which is also the Summer Solstice, in Chris’s memory, fundraising for Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity. At the time of writing, more an an incredible £16,500 has been raised, demonstrating how very loved Chris was by all those who knew him.

  • Iron Range Judge Rejects Bid to Dismiss Minnesota Hells Angels Cases

Iron Range judge rejects bid to dismiss Hells Angels cases

The court found no breach of attorney-client privilege or witness coercion after a contested hearing.

By Tom Olsen Duluth News Tribune May 07, 2025
    https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/local/iron-range-judge-rejects-bid-to-dismiss-hells-angels-cases

VIRGINIA — A judge declined to dismiss rape and kidnapping charges against two members of the Iron Range chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club.

Judge Robert Friday said there was no breach of attorney-client privilege, as one of the defendants, Paul Anthony Debelak, failed to use proper channels to communicate with his attorney from the St. Louis County Jail, and there was no evidence that messages reviewed by investigators contained legal advice.

Additionally, the judge said, defense attorneys failed to prove their assertion that Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents intimidated witnesses into cooperating with the investigation.

“The court finds there were no deliberate intrusions on privileged attorney-client communications,” Friday wrote in a 21-page order. “Assuming (for the sake of argument) that there was an intrusion, the court would still deny defendants’ motion to dismiss because defendants’ Sixth Amendment right to counsel was not violated.”

The ruling, in the cases of Debelak, 39, and Eric Anthony Newman, 50, came five months after a contentious evidentiary hearing in which attorneys asserted that agents eavesdropped on private communications and three witnesses claimed they were threatened with prosecution if they did not comply with orders.

The cases stem from allegations that a woman was sexually assaulted and a man was abducted and beaten at the Hells Angels’ downtown Eveleth clubhouse.

Authorities reported that the man escaped from the group on crutches on Nov. 28, 2023, and ran to the safety of police, expressing fear that members could find him.

Investigators said they went on to learn that both victims were visiting an Eveleth residence Nov. 27 when club members arrived. It was reported that the woman was raped there by Debelak and Newman.

The man, meanwhile, was allegedly taken to the clubhouse in a van driven by Jake Douglas Novaczyk. He said he continued to be beaten by the chapter president, Jerand Paul French, as other members recorded video.

Authorities have released few details about the alleged motive or relationships between parties, other than to say that French was allegedly upset about the man’s association with the woman.

Defense attorneys, however, allege in their new filings that investigators were eager to implicate the club in serious crimes, noting BCA agents had been conducting surveillance outside the headquarters since at least June 2023.

The attorneys also say the alleged victims had been using drugs, a practice that is not tolerated by the Hells Angels, that other witnesses in the house said the rape and kidnapping did not occur, and that there is no DNA or other forensic evidence to support it.

The defense claimed in filings that investigators had listened to or read phone calls and text messages from the jailed defendants to their attorneys — something that was revealed when a BCA agent mentioned to a prosecutor that he had learned Novaczyk planned to surprise the state by filing a speed trial demand at a hearing last July.

A BCA analyst, Jessica Zimmer, also acknowledged under oath that she violated the terms of an agreement with the jail by sharing her login information and placing some materials in a shared drive for other employees to access.

But Judge Friday sided with prosecutors, who pointed out that inmates are provided clear instructions for designating their attorney’s phone numbers as private. Neither Debelak nor Newman can assert privilege over Novaczyk’s communications, the judge wrote, and texting devices were not supposed to be used for attorney messages.

A review of records showed Debelak had placed eight calls to his attorney — the longest lasting just one minute — to discuss basic procedural issues before designating her number as private.

“Defendant Debelak and Defendant Newman failed to prove that the alleged intrusion on privileged attorney-client communication involved legal advice,” the judge wrote, “and (that) the communication was intended to be confidential.”

Three witnesses also testified at the November hearing that they were threatened with charges if they did not comply. The judge noted discrepancies between their testimony and that of two BCA agents, so he relied on audio recordings of the interviews.

Friday said the tapes showed witnesses were warned against witness tampering, and one was told he could be charged with aiding and abetting because he was seen in the background of a video witnessing alleged crimes.

But the judge said there was no evidence anyone was “actively discouraged” from testifying or threatened with charges as a result of testifying. Three witnesses, in fact, spoke with a defense investigator, testified at the evidentiary hearing and said they would appear again at trial.

“While the court acknowledges the witnesses may have been intimidated by the BCA agents due to their status as law enforcement,” Friday wrote, “the BCA agents’ actions did not reach a level that ‘substantially interfered with any free and unhampered determination the witness might have made as to whether to testify and if so the content of the testimony.’ ”

Debelak is set for a jury trial beginning June 9, while Newman’s case is set to proceed Aug. 25.

French, 40, and Novaczyk, 46, have filed motions on the same grounds and were heard in March, agreeing to rely on the testimony from their co-defendants’ hearing. Judge Andrew Peterson is awaiting briefs before ruling in their cases.

All defendants except Newman have either posted bond or been released under pretrial supervision.
