Fairfield cop charged in Hells Angels brawl

A Fairfield police officer was charged by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday for his part in a January assault that involved alleged members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.
According to Sussex County Prosecutor David Weaver, the police officer was off duty at the time and tried to influence investigators to protect the members of the Hells Angels he was with during the Jan. 12 assault.
Anthony Girardi Jr., 48, of Fairfield, was processed Friday at the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office in Newton and charged with official misconduct and third-degree hindering apprehension and prosecution.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Girardi was at Tony’s Bar in Hardyston with alleged Hells Angels members Sean Sweeney and Bernard Krynicki.
While at the bar, Krynicki and Sweeney allegedly began an altercation with a man and woman who were also at the bar. During the fight, Krynicki hit the man over the head with a beer mug while Sweeney grabbed the woman and attempted to punch her, according to the report.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the assaults occurred in front of Girardi and that he failed to perform his duty as a police officer to stop the attack.
When police officers from the Hardyston Police Department arrived to investigate the incident, Girardi allegedly tried to prevent Krynicki and Sweeney from getting arrested.
According to prosecutors, Girardi identified himself as a police officer and provided false information regarding the assault to responding officers.
A request for comment from the Fairfield Police Department was not returned. It is unclear if Girardi is still on active duty as a police officer in that municipality. He was released Friday on his own recognizance with a summons for a pending court date.
Krynicki and Sweeney were arrested and charged by Hardyston police on Jan. 26 on aggravated assault and weapons charges.
Krynicki, 45, a North Arlington resident, is being held at the Sussex County Jail in Newton on $57,500 bail; Sweeney, 42, a Hamburg resident, was released on a summons.

2 members of violent biker gang plead guilty

ST. LOUIS— Two Chicago members of a violent motorcycle gang pleaded guilty to federal racketeering conspiracy charges in St. Louis, prosecutors said Thursday.

Carlyle “Thundercat” Fleming and Allan “Dog” Hunter were among 18 members of the Wheels of Soul Outlaw Motorcycle gang in seven states indicted in June. Fleming pleaded guilty Wednesday and Hunter did so on Thursday. Both face sentencing in May.

Prosecutors described the gang, which is based in Philadelphia but has branches throughout the U.S., as well organized and extremely violent. Authorities say the gang distributed crack cocaine and heroin and committed robberies to raise money, and they blamed the gang for three killings.

In 2009, members allegedly shot and killed a member of the rival Sin City Titans gang in St. Louis. The shooting came weeks after a meeting in which members were told that the Mother Chapter had declared “open season” on the Sin City Titans, according to the indictment.

In January 2011, a member the Wheels of Soul allegedly shot and killed a person in Chicago during an altercation with the rival Street Soldiers gang. And in March 2011, a member is accused of shooting three victims in the back as they fled from a party in Marion, Ohio, killing one and seriously wounding another.

In his plea, Fleming admitted trying to kill two people in separate incidents in Chicago in 2009. Both victims survived, one after being shot in the stomach and one after being stabbed. Witnesses told police the stabbing victim was “nearly scalped,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in St. Louis.

Hunter, a former president of the Midwest Region for the Wheels of Soul, admitted he conspired to distribute crack cocaine in the Chicago area. He also admitted conspiring to kill rival gang members in East St. Louis, Ill., and that he intended to use pipe bombs against rival clubs.

Online court records show that at least five of the other suspects in the case have also pleaded guilty.

Motorcycle gang member involved in Nugget shooting takes plea deal, is expected to testify against two others

One of the motorcycle gang members involved in the deadly shooting at a Sparks casino during Street Vibrations pleaded guilty on Friday in a plea deal, a prosecutor said.

Gary Rudnick, 45, was facing first-degree murder charges for allegedly inciting a fight between the Vagos motorcycle gang and a rival Hells Angeles chapter on Sept. 23, which left 51-year-old San Jose president Jeffery Pettigrew dead.
But he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder and will testify at the October murder trial of his fellow gang member, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Karl Hall.

“I’m happy with that,” Hall said after Rudnick entered his plea before Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer. She also reduced his bail from $300,000 to $100,000, according to the court.

“He’s expected to testify at trial,” Hall said of Rudnick.
Rudnick faces a maximum of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced in December, Hall said.

Fellow Vagos member Ernesto Manuel Gonzalez of San Francisco, charged with gunning down Pettigrew on a crowded dance floor at John Ascuaga’s Nugget, has pleaded not guilty to a list of charges, including murder, carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a weapon in a casino, Hall said.

His trial is set for Oct. 29. His bail was set for $2 million.

Hells Angel member, Cesar Villagrana of Gilroy, Calif., also has pleaded not guilty charges ranging from second-degree murder to carrying a concealed weapon. He was charged for allegedly accepting a challenge to fight and firing shots when the violence started on the dance floor.

The Nugget was evacuated late on Sept. 23 after shots were fired and a fight broke out on the dance floor at Trader Dick’s. Besides Pettigrew’s fatal injuries, two others were injured. Two members of the Vagos motorcycle club suffered leg and abdomen injuries.

According to police reports, the battle between the Vagos and Hells Angels started in the Oyster Bar at the Nugget when Rudnick instigated a fight with Pettigrew.
Pettigrew reportedly punched Rudnick in the face, and the gun battle ensued, records show.
The indictment against the men says Rudnick, with the Vagos, challenged the Hells Angeles to a fight and Pettigrew and Villagrana accepted. Since all of the men conspired to fight and their argument resulted in fatal gunfire, all of the men were charged as co-defendants.
Gonzalez was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon because he fired the fatal shot. Villagrana was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of felony battery with a deadly weapon for shooting two Vagos members, which left them with non-life-threatening injuries.

DETAILS: On Saturday, February 25th, 2012, at about 0015 hours, Deputies were dispatched to 8901 Katella Avenue, the “15 – Fifteens” Cocktails, in Anaheim; reference a physical altercation occurring inside/outside the bar, as well as with shots being fired during the incident. The shots were heard coming from the area of the frontage road of Katella Avenue and Mac Street, in unincorporated Anaheim, while the suspects were fleeing the scene in a Silver colored Audi (NFD). The suspects in this case were all seen wearing black leather vests (cuts/colors) with “G-ZER” Tribe Bikers and/or “Prospect” written on them. It is unclear at this time if this club is “Prospecting” the “15 Fifteens” Cocktails, or if this is a one-time incident. Members of this club have been seen at the bar on consecutive weekends. It should also be noted that a Security Staff member/Bouncer for the bar is an admitted member of the “G-ZER” Tribe Bikers and was working at the bar at the time of this incident, and is currently uncooperative with Law Enforcement. At this time, all individual(s) involved in this incident are not in-custody, nor have they been identified.

BACKGOUND:
According to current intelligence, the “G-Zer” Tribe MC started 20-25 years ago as a Sports-bike club in the Commerce area of LA County. They were traditionally a Filipino and Hispanic member club, but currently appear to have crossed over all racial lines. In years past, the “G-ZER” Tribe Bikers became a support club for the Mongols OMG. However, it appears their relationship may have since expired, but are closely related to other numerous Sports-bike clubs in the region. They also belong to an association in L.A. called Southern California Biker Alliance. Although, it appears as though they have remained a Sports-bike club, it appears they have adopted the 1% (OMG) philosophy and protocol. As like with any OMG or Supporter club they should be handled with the highest level of officer safety.

Ex-Hells Angel member charged with homicide at San Jose court hearing

Under close watch by beefed-up security a former Hells Angels member was charged Wednesday with killing another biker at the funeral of the president of the San Jose chapter of the outlaw motorcycle club.

Despite the heavy police presence, no bikers showed up for the brief arraignment Wednesday afternoon of Steve Ruiz, who did not enter a plea.
Ruiz said little and appeared somber and stone-faced during the hearing. He was represented by John Fuery, an Oakland attorney who said he planned to file a gag order motion and ask that the next court date be continued until March 15.
Ruiz, 38, a former NUMMI worker in Fremont, is accused of killing Steve Tausan on Oct. 15 at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose.

Both were attending the funeral of Jeff “Jethro” Pettigrew. who was killed in a Nevada casino in September, allegedly by a Ernesto Gonzalez, 53, the president of the Nicaragua chapter of the rival Vagos gang who lives in San Francisco.
Pettigrew and Tausan were close friends. No one has yet publicly said why Ruiz would have allegedly killed Tausan. Sources have previously said a fist fight erupted between Tausan and Ruiz at the funeral, where Ruiz allegedly drew a handgun, shot Tausan and fled.
San Jose police had been looking for Ruiz since the funeral, which was attended by about 3,000 Hells Angels supporters and was being watched closely by police. Ruiz evaded capture until Saturday about 7:30 p.m. at the Days Inn Motel on Warm Springs Boulevard in Fremont.

Outside court, Fuery acknowledged that while Ruiz used to be a Hells Angels member, when something as “drastic” as a homicide charge is filed, that person then becomes “excommunicated and shunned.”

Still, he said his client was not especially concerned about his safety at the Santa Clara County Jail.

Fuery described his client as a “calm, stoic and reasonable man.”

San Francisco, CA — Police have arrested a Hells Angel gang member several months after he was suspected of fatally shooting a fellow member at a funeral for the regional leader of the motorcycle gang.
Steve Ruiz surrendered Saturday evening after San Jose police surrounded his motel in Fremont, police Sgt. Jason Dwyer said Sunday.
Ruiz, 38, had been the subject of a widespread manhunt since Steve Tausan was shot and killed during memorial services for Jeffrey “Jethro” Pettigrew on Oct. 15. Police believe that Ruiz shot Tausan when a fight broke out at the San Jose funeral, which was monitored by police.
Dwyer would not say what led officers to the Day’s Inn motel in Fremont or if any weapons were recovered, but added that Ruiz was considered “armed and dangerous.”
A front desk clerk at the motel, Rey Bayangos, said Ruiz had checked in just two hours before police arrived.
“They used the phone at the front desk, called and asked him to surrender peacefully, and he did surrender,” Bayangos said. “It happened all of a sudden.”
Tausan, 52, was one of 4,000 people attending services for Pettigrew, the president of the Hells Angels’ San Jose chapter. Pettigrew was slain during a brawl with a rival biker gang in a Nevada casino on Sept. 23.
A week after Tausan was killed, police stormed a house in Stockton but came up empty. Investigators also said in December that they had “credible evidence” that Ruiz, a former San Jose resident, had been seen in the city.
Ruiz was booked into Santa Clara County Jail. Dwyer did not have bail information or know if he had been assigned a court date.
